Track preparation this week with our trustees Mark Denize and Steve Dawson busy clearing an old DOC track on the boundary of the DOC reserve and Mark’s property above Te Aroha Bay (East Bay) and Cook Strait.
This will be one of the trap lines in the pilot programme. The track was originally formed to investigate a reported possum sighting a few years ago. We are planning to install traps on this line in early September.
If you look carefully at one of the photos of Steve, you can see a bit of the North Island in the background – this is near Cape Terawhiti which is part of the Capital Kiwi project. It looked a lot closer than appears in the photo. Hopefully one day their kiwis can look across at ours!
While climbing up the road to the start of the track on the quad bike, this bright green gecko hitched a lift on one of the bags.
