The Arapaoa Kiwi Trust is proud and pleased to have achieved all our operational goals for 2024.
We have 998 traps and 48 trail cameras installed (25 Oct. 2024). Next year we start to fill in the gaps in the trap coverage to have our trap lines network extend the whole length of the island. This will make a huge difference to the stoat population going forward.
We have now begun an exciting research project with Maanaki Whenua Landcare Research on the feral cat situation. This research will allow us to effectively eradicate feral cats on the island.
Our annual funding grants and ongoing sponsorships provide the project with administration and management, all trap and baiting expenses, health and safety equipment and contract trappers who monitor and service traps and cameras monthly.
